I took my wife's Galaxy out the other day and decided to wash the rear window. I pushed the stalk and heard the washer motor whirring, but no water appeared. After several attempts, I noticed that the carpet in the passengers footwell was soaked and there was a slight whiff of washer additive in the car. I can only guess that the pipe is leaking and that it runs along the passenger side of the car. Anybody know how to get to it? I've had a quick look but to no avail and the Haynes manual makes no mention of it. I'd rather not pay a garage a fortune for such a simple task.

Thanks.

There is a joint up towrd the bulkhead which always comes undone - strip the side strips and carpet and it will be obvious. There is a how to with photos on the Forum - try a search

That's a mighty quick reply! Thanks. Yes, after posting I did the necessary search and pulled up the photos etc. Sorry to waste your time.

Just looking forward to a happy hour of frustration with the door seal now!

Just a quick one use some small tywraps on each side of the joint and it will never come undone again.

Hello.

Same happened to mine ('02 TDi) a few weeks ago. Had to tape up the joint just to make sure it didn't come apart again.

The water ruined the parking sensor electronics under the passenger front seat. Cost 150 quid for a new control box. Now I've remounted the new one with spacers underneath so it's an inch or so off the floor in case it happens again.

It's probably worth checking to see if yours is ok and dry.

Best wishes

I wonder if it`s possible to put a seperate washer bottle in the rear of our Galaxy`s to prevent this from happening in future. It must be possible to wire a seperate system in, blocking off the original system from the washer bottle at the front. At least if it leaks it`ll only be in the "boot". Has anyone tried this ? A rear washer bottle from say a scrapped Peugeot 405 Estate, a couple of wires run through to the fuse box, then some of you clever electricians can work the rest out. Same switch (wiper stalk) or seperate switch on or under the dashboard.

I hope it`s not too far fetched, but it was just a thought.

Am I missing something? an "02" should still be in Warranty - didn't you try and claim on it?

Warranty or not - If this happens to mine regardless of age, I'll take this up with customer lack of services.

It's done 109.000 miles so no warranty any more!

are we allowed to do these kind of things? you know, with MOT and everything?

You can do this - rear wiper and washer are not MOT items. But where would you put the rear washer bottle? Next to the CD changer so if it leaks it deposits water into the rear wiring looms etc? What about a custom hollow rear spoiler that is really a water bottle? Now there's a challenge for anyone who's handy with plastic moulding etc - if I made one out of wood, it wouldn't hold water

i would find a place under the car, near the rear, and protect the bottle with insulation and metal. and i would just redirect the wiring to work off the same switch.
